Snitch! Snitch! Snitch!

Alex waved her hands in flourish, clearly pleased with herself as she announced, "Leaky Cauldron!"

Going up to the bartender she asked, "How is he? Let him out now." As she took cover behind a chair. She didn't have enough time to wonder whether Amber found her actions strange, as a golden blur shot up from behind the bar counter, launching itself on Amber as it licked her, wagging its tail incessantly.

"This is Snitch." Alex explained as she tore off the excited puppy away from AMber, smirking at the shocked looks most people gave the scene.

Amber's eye grew wide, "Oh- down! d- down! Dog- snitch- whatever your name is, down! Alex!" She yelled as the dog attacked her. Once the dog stopped mauling her Amber took a deep breath. "Well, your dog is just a ball of sunshine, he loves everybody." She told her as she whipped some of the dog drool off her face and a half smile tugged at her lips. She had never really been a dog person but oh well. Snitch seemed like the type of dog she might be able to get along with, despite all the licking.

"Snitch! Apologize! I told you not to maul random people! After you knocked me down, is that not enough?" Alex scolded, holding up the pup so their faces were level, "Don't give ME the cute look, give it to HER!" She added with a roll of her eyes, turning the golden retriever around so now he faced Amber, giving her the irresistible cute look from which he managed to manipulate and charm a lot of people. "Okay, now cut it out." She added, putting the pup in its basket. It didn't like the basket, apparently, as he shook it a lot. "How is the name selection?"

Amber smiled at the dog's puppy eyed face and watched as Alex set it in the basket. Okay, that's a dog she might like. She looked up from the pup at Alex's question. "Nice name, it fits him. The snitch in quidditch is small, gold, fast, and occasionally a major pain in the butt. So is the dog. Now we just need to attach wings onto him so he can fly like a snitch as well." She said jokingly, but the name did fit the dog. Now that's the puppy she would adopt, the one that sprouts wings and flies.

"Although I don't need to give Snitch any more speed or aids to run away from me, that is a pretty good idea, I will try it!" Alex agreed as she held Snitch's basket up to her face level, a thoughtful, yet curious expression on her face. "So do you have any siblings, Amber?" She asked as she ordered a sandwich for herself. "And do you want something?" She asked, adding a pumpkin juice to her order.

Amber felt her stomach lurch forward though tried her best to hide her discomfort. Great, this girl was just good at bringing up the wrong topics, though Amber tried not to blame her, she was just curious, as was Amber. "I'll just have a veggie burger and a pumpkin juice," she said, "I'm a vegetarian." Amber informed her, it didn't seem important, just something Amber thought Alex might be curious about. "And yeah I have an older brother, Jasper. You?" She asked.

Alex noticed the pain flash, and wondered what had gone wrong. This girl changes emotions faster that I do!, she thought, as she repeated the order to the waiter. Tapping her fingers impatiently in a random beat as she hummed songs, waiting for the food to arrive.

"Cool! Me? I have a younger brother, Derrek! He's turning eight in August!" She didn't add that he was foster, as far as she was concerned, they were real brother and sister, they even fought just like one.

Amber pushed the other thoughts out of her mind. Stupid Jasper and his 'I'll do anything to help you guys' attitude. She smiled, but then again that’s Jasper for you. "That's nice, do you like being the oldest or would you prefer to be the youngest child?" She asked her. Amber thanked the waiter as he came by with their food and she took a bite of her sandwich and a quick sip of her drink before turning back to Alex.

Taking a bite out of her roasted chicken sandwich, Alex vaguely wondered if Amber would find it offensive, considering she was vegetarian. Munching on her sandwich happily, she took a sip of her pumpkin juice, allowing herself time to think, before answering. "I don't know how being the younger child feels like, but I love being the older one!" She replied, musing on all the times she had pinned the blame on Derrek. "But you do get held responsible for a lot of stuff." She added, as an after-thougt.

Amber laughed at that. "Yeah, the good thing about being the youngest is that you usually don't get blamed for anything." She said. She took another bite of her sandwich before turning back to Alex. "So, what house are you hoping to get at Hogwarts?" Amber asked her curiously as she slung her small bag over the back of the chair.

"Don't know, Don't care." Alex replied, shrugging. She had heard about the houses, but she could care less in whatever house she gets sorted in, she knew she could have fun, any house, any people. Sure in this thought, she always drew comfort from it, if she ever worried about which house to get into. Not that it happened much, Alex was a go with the flow kind of girl, so she hardly assumed or had any expectation from the future.

Alex's reply shocked Amber, though she wasn't sure what she had been expecting in the first place. Maybe someone who was dead set on a house? Amber didn't know. But one thing was for sure, she admired how Alex was the type of person that just went with anything and everything, despite the possible consequences. Amber took another sip of her drink just as a second question came to her mind. "What classes are you looking forward to the most?" She asked, "I think my favorites will be Defense Against the Dark Arts, Flying, and Astronomy. I've always found potions interesting but I'm terrible when it comes to following the direction." She told Alex, a somewhat sheepish smile on her face. Amber has never really had any good potion making experiences, but oh well, she was bound to be bad in at least one class.

Alex had focused her attention completely on the food and trying to keep Snitch away from adoring five year olds, so she did not notice the look of shock on Amber's face, not that she would have figured out even if she had seen it.

"Subjects? Well, I don't know. I never school work." Alex answered, licking the dripping sauce before it hit the table, she had good reflexes. Licking it in and sighing softly, she continued. "But if my cooking is to be considered, then I can't be very good at Potions."

Amber nodded as she tried to think of something to fill the silence, it wasn't that she was uncomfortable in it, more that she just thought it would be nice if she could get to know Alex a little better before heading off to school since she was the only other person she had met since arriving. Amber wanted to try to get to know some other kids along with Alex, but hadn’t seen that many around.
A few minutes passed and nothing was said. Amber occupied herself with finishing one half of her sandwich, sipping on her drink, and watching Alex pull Snitch away from small children wanting to pet him. "I'm also looking forward to just looking around the school,” Amber said, more to herself than anything else, yet loud enough for Alex to hear, “with the stories I've heard about secret passages and whatnot I could probably keep myself busy for hours just wandering around." Amber stated.

"I would probably get lost and never be found and die inside those walls as a shriveled seventy year old." Alex said in an overly anxious voice, sighing dramatically and dropping her head on her hands. "Although, the fact that there is no food in stone may hasten my departure." She added, in a muffled. but thoughtful voice.

Alex had met two other students going to Hogwarts, but she had talked the most to Damien, she had no idea where he was now, but she was also slightly glad of the getting lost that she could do now. Seeing that her mum thought that Alex knew her way around well enough, gave her the freedom to do things, her way.

Amber shook her head, "I bet you wouldn't get lost more than any other first year. I'm bound to get lost a few times at least." She told her, "Besides, after a few weeks I'm sure it'll be a lot easier to find your way around." Amber said, or at least, she hoped that was the case. "It can't be any worse than walking around the moving staircases, from what I've heard."

"Right, and how many of those have gotten lost in Knockturn Alley?" Alex asked, feigning innocence. Taking a bite of that delicious sandwich to get herself out of her misery, she distracted herself, by holding up a cherry wood wand. "Yours?" She asked innocently to Amber. She was good.

Amber tilted her head to the side, the more she talked to Alex the more she was beginning to realize she might know less about Hogwarts than Amber had originally thought. Mentally shaking her head she asked herself why she had to be so naive. She first sees Alex in Knockturn Alley and suddenly assumes she knows as much as a first year could possibly know about magic, the thought never even occurred to her than all this might be knew to Alex, not that it mattered anyways.
"None," she said honestly, "I've just read books and hear stories from my dad." She glanced at the wand Alex was holding up, "Yeah, that's mine, dragon heartstring core, 13 3/4 inches. What's your made out of?" She asked curiously.

"Yes, well, my family is muggle. Though I am in doubts about Derrek." Alex mused, rotating the wand from end to end. Upon hearing Amber's answer, and question, she face palmed. "Well, Blackwood and Phoenix feather, but won't you ask how I got it? I mean, you just don't randomly keep your wand stashed out do you?" She asked, taking a sip of the juice.

Amber laughed, "Good point, how did you get my wand anyways?" She asked, she thought she had kept it in her pocket, but apparently it had found its way out somehow.
She got a curious expression on her face when Amber mentioned she was a muggle born. "What's it like coming here, all this was probably a bit of a shock." She said, "And my dad's a wizard and my mom's a muggle, my mom nearly fainted when she first saw everything, according to my dad." Amber said.

'By a little use of my hands." Alex replied mysteriously, handing back the wand, winking as she did so. She was really proud of her this particular skill. The fact that she could generally manage to shift stuff, from other people's pocket to other............places. Not that she had ever stolen, she just found it a useful skill, and therefore developed it.

"I guess you could say that." Alex replied slightly reluctantly, why was she reluctant to consider that she was from a muggle background, when that was most likely the truth? "Well, you get to play a lot more video games!" She added excitedly, going back on all the memories she had with video games.

Amber narrowed her eyes a bit as she hesitantly took back the wand. "Ok then," She muttered, not sure whether to be impressed or freaked out by Alex's pick pocketing skill.
She gave a small smile at Alex's mention of videogames, "Oh yeah, a bit more electronic time never hurts." She said laughing. Amber took another sip of her drink and placed her wand back in her pocket.

Alex saw Amber's narrow eyed look, but simply raised her eyebrow and gave an amused grin in response. Taking a bite of her sandwich, she mused how many people stereotyped her as an airhead on first visit, and how many actually saw the selfish, sharp and extremely manipulative mind that lay behind.

"I would die without the computer!" She proclaimed, setting down her glass.

Amber raised an eyebrow, amused. "Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll have to find some way to survive all of term without any electronics while at Hogwarts, but then again you have magic so that's a bonus." She said grinning. "But then again I suppose if you ever get to go to Hogsmead you could always sneak something in there since we won't be on the grounds, if you have to."
Bending down Amber patted Snitch on the head and wondered what it would be like to grow up strictly in a muggle community without knowing about magic at all. Yes she had grown up in a muggle neighborhood before moving here, but their house had been full of magic things and she had always known about Hogwarts. A part of her thought it would be interesting to grow up in a muggle life, but a larger part of her was saying she would miss magic too much.

"Oh yes! Of course you do!" Alex answered sarcastically, rolling her eyes at Snitch who almost seem to purr at the attention. "Get some self respect!" She chided him, causing him to give her a huge lick on her feet. "I know about that, and I think if I research enough, I could figure out a way to mix them and make them co-exist. After all, there are radios in the Wizarding World aren't they?" She added excitedly, already planning to sneak in her laptop.
